AFP Charlotte is excited to celebrate National Philanthropy Day on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. The celebration will take place at The Westin Charlotte, with registration beginning at 11:15am. The National Philanthropy Day luncheon recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations in the Charlotte philanthropic community for their hard work and dedication. National Philanthropy Day is celebrated because of the impact of the nonprofit sector and the increasing role it plays in societies throughout the world. It is celebrated by more than 125 communities and 50,000 people around the world. Below are those that are being honored during the luncheon:

- Outstanding Philanthropist – Porter Byrum
- Outstanding Emerging Philanthropist – Jackie Slaugenhaupt
- Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business – Beacon Partners
- Outstanding Legacy – Carol Ann Douglas
- Outstanding Student Philanthropy – UNC Charlotte Nursing Association
- Outstanding Philanthropic Organization – John S. and James L. Knight Foundation
- Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser – Jamie McLawhorn
- Outstanding Professional Fundraising Executive – James Bullock
